IMPORTANT NOTICE – PRACTICE ACT CHANGES – EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2022

O.C.G.A. § 43-10A Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists

Effective July 1, 2022 there will be changes to sections of the Georgia code section (practice act) regulating the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists applicants/licensees.

Important changes to licensure requirements for counselors:

Effective July 1, 2022 the number of years of post-degree experience under direction and supervision changes to two (2) years.
Effective July 1, 2022 the required master’s degree (or higher) in clinical counseling or counseling psychology shall consist of at least 60 semester hours or 80 quarter hours.

Therefore, all applications for licensure as a professional counselor or an associate professional counselor received by the Board and DATE STAMPED on or after Friday, July 1, 2022 will be reviewed by the Board members in accordance with these new statutory requirements.

Please review the new statutory language in its entirety as there are other changes affecting all three professions licensed by this Board.

New Processing Fee - Effective March 15, 2022
A processing fee will be added to any application or document request. This includes any application, pocket card request, or wall certificate request.

Online: The online processing fee is $5.00 | By Mail: If you are mailing in the request with a check, the processing fee is $10.00
