Actions Taken by the Board of Cemeterians at its October 23 Meeting Atlanta—The State Board of Cemeterians held its monthly meeting on October 23, 2007. The Board elected Richard Parker of Brunswick as their Vice-President. Also, the members voted to close a case against a preneed sales agent who was mistakenly operating without a license, although he had a copy of the paperwork and the money order sent to the Office of the Secretary of State to obtain a license. The Secretary of State never received the paperwork and the individual has now properly registered as a preneed sales agent. Board members also voted to adopt an administrative order against Crest Lawn Memorial Park in Lafayette. The order was entered into by the Office of the Secretary of State on January 16, 2007 because Crest Lawn’s sales contracts did not comply with the Cemetery and Funeral Services Act. Additionally, the Board voted to refer the order to the Attorney General for appropriate action. The Office of the Secretary of State is pursuing additional violations of the Act that fall under the agency’s jurisdiction. The Board’s next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, December 11, 2007. |
