1,040,743 voters cast ballots in the 2012 Georgia Presidential Preference Primary. Voter turnout was 20.7 percent.

In certifying the results, the Secretary of State affirmed that all counties have provided to the state the total votes tabulated for each state candidate. Further, the Secretary of State affirms that the returns are a true and correct tabulation of the certified returns received by this office from each county. Certification does not preclude the state from continuing any current investigations related to the special elections, or from pursuing any future allegations that may arise from these elections.

Additionally, the 2012 Presidential Preference Primary was the first election in which the Secretary of State’s Office reported results by U.S. Congressional District. The program to report election results by U.S. Congressional District was successfully developed and implemented in-house with assistance from Georgia’s 159 county election offices, the Kennesaw State University Center for Election Systems and the Georgia Republican Party.

Brian Kemp has been Secretary of State since January, 2010. Among the office’s wide-ranging responsibilities, the Secretary of State is charged with conducting efficient and secure elections, the registration of corporations, and the regulation of securities and professional license holders. The office also oversees the Georgia Archives.
