Secretary of State Kemp Announces Receipt of Presidential Preference Primary Candidate Names from the Georgia Republican Party
Atlanta – Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced today that the Executive Committee of the Georgia Republican Party has submitted a letter indicating the candidates whose names will appear on the March 6, 2012 Republican Presidential Preference Primary Ballot.
The Executive Committee of the Georgia Republican Party submitted the following names:
Georgia election law requires the Secretary of State to set a date for the state executive committee of each party which is to conduct a presidential preference primary to submit a list of the names of the candidates of such party to appear on the presidential preference primary ballot. On October 6, 2011, Secretary Kemp issued a notice to the chairman of each political party to notify that the deadline for submitting the list of candidate names for the 2012 Presidential Preference Primary is November 15, 2011.
Georgia election law also requires the Secretary of State’s Office to publish the lists of each party’s candidates on its website during the fourth week immediately preceding the date on which the presidential preference primary is to be held.
Brian Kemp has been Secretary of State since January 2010. Among the office’s wide-ranging responsibilities, the Secretary of State is charged with conducting efficient and secure elections, the registration of corporations, and the regulation of securities and professional license holders. The office also oversees the Georgia Archives.
