Secretary Handel closes qualifying for House District 72 ATLANTA—Secretary of State Karen Handel closed qualifying for the special election to fill state House District 72 today at noon. Four candidates qualified and paid the qualifying fee of $400 for the special election to be held on Tuesday, December 18. If no candidate receives a majority of the vote, a run-off election will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2008. The following candidates qualified and will be placed on the ballot in alphabetical order:
The election is a non-partisan special election with no party primary. However, each candidate’s party affiliation will be listed on the ballot. All citizens residing in state House District 72 who wish to vote in the special election can register to vote through the close of business Wednesday, November 21. Voter registration forms can be obtained at http://www.sos.state.ga.us/elections/voter_registration/voter_reg_app.htm. Polls will be open from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 18. Advance voting will be held Monday, December 10 through Friday, December 14. The election will be held in portions of Fayette County, including Fayetteville and Peachtree City. Voters can request an absentee ballot from their county registrar’s office through Friday, December 14. All absentee ballots must be received by the county registrar by 7:00 pm on Election Day, December 18. Photo identification is not required when voting by mail.
