Secretary Kemp Declares September 2012 National Voter Registration Month

(Atlanta, GA) – Secretary Kemp today joins fellow members of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) in reminding citizens that September 2012 is National Voter Registration Month. Secretary Kemp is working with government and election officials across the state to make eligible voters aware of registration deadlines and requirements for the November 6th general election, as well as promoting state resources to help with the registration process.

“As Georgians and citizens of the United States of America, we have no more solemn honor than our privilege to cast a vote,” said Kemp.  “As Georgia’s chief elections officer, I want to make sure that every Georgian has the opportunity to register to vote and make their voice heard at the poll.”

Georgia citizens have until October 9th to register to vote in order to take part in the November 6th General Election.

Georgia citizens have access to several convenient methods of registering to vote:

The nation's secretaries of state established September as National Voter Registration Month to encourage voter participation and increase awareness of state requirements and deadlines for voting. Despite record-breaking registration and voter turnout levels in many states for the November 2008 presidential election, six million potential voters did not cast a ballot because they missed a voter registration deadline or did not know how to register to vote.
