Qualifying Closes for Special Elections: Senate D-21, House D-21, and Senate D-11

As of noon today, qualifying is closed for the following Special Elections: State Senate District 21 (held in portions of Cherokee/Fulton Counties), State House District 21 (held in a portion of Cherokee County) and State Senate District 11 (held in Colquitt, Decatur, Early, Grady, Miller, Seminole, and portions of Mitchell/Thomas Counties). Candidates were required to submit a fee of $400 and their paperwork in order to qualify for the House and Senate Districts 21 and the Senate District 11 elections to be held on January 8th, 2013.

All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to vote in the Special Election must register to vote before the close of business on Friday, December 14, 2012. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013.

Brian Kemp has been Secretary of State since January, 2010. Among the office’s wide-ranging responsibilities, the Secretary of State is charged with conducting efficient and secure elections, the registration of corporations, and the regulation of securities and professional license holders. The office also oversees the Georgia Archives.
