Actions Taken by the Georgia State Board of Funeral Service at its March 11 Meeting
Macon, Ga.—The Georgia State Board of Funeral Service held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2008.
The Board approved the following orders to accept fine monies for inspection violations and settling cases:
Miller Funeral Home, Griffin: Inspection citation of $300 for failure to maintain the required minimum inventory of eight adult caskets. The inventory was deficient by three caskets.
Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home, Inc., Thomaston: Inspection citation of $800 for failure to maintain the required minimum inventory of eight adult caskets. The inventory was deficient by eight caskets.
Stewart Funeral Service, Vidalia: Inspection citation of $500. The funeral home was not open for inspection.
The Board also accepted fine monies on consent orders previously accepted for the following:
Murchison Funeral Home, Inc., Vidalia: Fine by consent order of $4,000 for operating as a funeral establishment from August 1, 2007 through February 11, 2008 on an expired license.
John Howell Dixon, Jr., Vidalia: Fine by consent order of $4,000 for permitting Murchison Funeral Home, Inc. to operate as a funeral establishment from August 1, 2007 through February 11, 2008 on an expired license. Mr. Dixon is the Funeral Director in Full & Continuous Charge of the establishment.
The Board established the following policies:
Licensees who have not paid fines within the 30 days allowed by law will be summoned to a hearing before the Board to discuss the matter of the fines and their failure to pay.
Funeral establishments granted a second 90-day grace period in which to operate without an approved Funeral Director in Full & Continuous Charge must be inspected during the second grace period to assure compliance with Board law and rules.
The Georgia State Board of Funeral Service will hold its next meeting Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards Division in Macon, Georgia.
