Actions Taken By the Georgia Board of Nursing at its September 16-17 Meeting
Macon, Ga.—The Georgia Board of Nursing met on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 and Thursday, September 17, 2009.
The Board accepted the recommendations and commendations from the April 21, 2009 through April 22, 2009 Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Site Visit Report.
The Board moved to extend full approval to Brenau University through December 31, 2013. The action is based upon review and documentation of compliance with rules relating to annual reports, the most recent site visit report and responses to recommendations, and overall passing percentage of 85.7 percent of all first-time NCLEX-RN writers from 2005 to 2008. Unless another reason presents itself, the next site visit will be scheduled for the 2012-2013 academic year.
The Board moved to extend full approval to Georgia Highlands College through December 31, 2013. The action is based upon review and documentation of compliance with rules relating to annual reports, the most recent site visit report and responses to recommendations, and overall passing percentage of 90.7 percent of all first-time NCLEX-RN writers from 2005 to 2008. Unless another reason presents itself, the next site visit will be scheduled for the 2012-2013 academic year.
The Board moved to extend full approval to Piedmont College through December 31, 2013. The action is based upon review and documentation of compliance with rules relating to annual reports, the most recent site visit report and responses to recommendations, and overall passing percentage of 85.7 percent of all first-time a NCLEX-RN writers from 2005 to 2008. Unless another reason presents itself, the next site visit will be scheduled for the 2012-2013 academic year.
The Board approved the response submitted by Southwest Georgia Technical College to the Board’s May 13-14, 2009 recommendation and the proposed one-day format for an LPN-ADN Bridge to be initiated in the Winter 2010 quarter.
The Board moved to grant initial approval to the College of Coastal Georgia for the enrollment of at least 20 students into its BSN Program in January 2010 based upon documented compliance with Rules 410-4-.01 (4); (5) and (6).
The Board accepted Report I submitted by Augusta Technical College for its proposed baccalaureate degree nursing program.
The Board moved to grant full approval to Bainbridge College’s Associate Degree Nursing Program through December 31, 2013. The action was based upon review and documentation of compliance with rules relating to annual reports, the most recent site visit report and responses to recommendations, and overall passing percentage of 85.1 percent of all first-time a writers from 2007 to 2009. If no other reason presents itself, the next site visit will be scheduled for the 2012-2013 academic year.
The Board moved that Bauder College does not support the granting of Developmental Approval based upon reports submitted. The Board moved to ask Bauder College to provide the following:
- A projected budget covering the planning period prior to the enrollment of the first class through graduation of at least three classes and program expenses need to be clearly described.
- Provide a solid commitment for all proposed practice settings with dates on which site visits were conducted.
- Review the statement on the clinical contract under Clinical Supervision to clarify the role of faculty members and the provision of patient care.
The Board moved to approve Chattahoochee Technical College’s plan to relocate the proposed associate degree nursing program from the Marietta campus to the South Cobb campus and impose conditional approval on the proposed associate degree nursing program until such time as corrective actions related to the administration of the program by a qualified nurse administrator have been reviewed and accepted by the Board.

- John Vincent Hull, Atlanta: Fined $1,000 and received four years probation.
- Laura Ellen Dent, Augusta: Fined $500 and received five years probation.
- Reese John Purvis, Augusta: Probationary period concurrent with South Carolina.
- Jana Lee Rumball Powell, Flowery Branch: Fined $500 and received two years probation.
- Cynthia W. Wilson, Gray: Received one year probation.
- Vanessa Aleta White, Jacksonville, FL: Received four years probation.
- Ashley Elizabeth Johnson, Kennesaw: Fined $500 and received four years probation.
- Wendy Wolf Segal, Lawrenceville: Fined $1,000 and received one year probation.
- Mary Ellen Peacock, Leesburg: Fined $500 and received two years probation.
- Karen Mitchell Whiddon, Macon: Fined $500 and received one year probation.
- Shannon Marie McGuire, Ocala: Received four years probation.

The Georgia Board of Nursing accepted the following Consent Agreements for Reinstatement:
- Ginger Holly Lineberry, Gainesville
- Victoria Ann Jones Kirby, Roswell: Fined $1,200.
The Georgia Board of Nursing suspended the following licenses:
- Tera Cherie McAllister, Macon: Indefinite suspension following felony forgery conviction.
- Tommie Lee Schell, Norman Park: Student loan default.
- Melandy Antoinette Wallace, Warner Robins: Student loan default.
The Georgia Board of Nursing accepted the following Voluntary Surrenders:
- Juli Payne Dykes, Lawrenceville
- Amanda Lynn Carpenter, Ringgold
- Joyce Annette Terrell, Snellville
The Georgia Board of Nursing accepted the following cease and desist order for unlicensed practice:
- Wanda Christy Williamson, Swainsboro
The Georgia Board of Nursing will hold its next meeting November 18-20, 2009 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Board in Macon.
