Actions Taken by the Georgia Board of Funeral Services at its December 14 Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia Board of Funeral Services met on Tuesday, December 14, 2010.

The Board voted to approve one new funeral establishment license, and six changes to funeral director in full and continuous charge of a funeral establishment.

The Board voted to accept a consent agreement with the following applicant for licensure:

  • Robert Franklin, Eufaula, AL: Embalmer Funeral Director

The Board voted to accept a consent agreement with the following licensee:

  • Knox Funeral Home, Atlanta: Funeral Establishment

The Board approved the following request to lift the probationary licensure status from the following licensee:

  • Chappelle M. Williams, Rex: Embalmer, Funeral Director

The Board approved the following orders to accept fine money for inspection violations:

  • Mosby-Litman Funeral Home, Alma: $300 for failure to maintain one operable motor hearse and/or combination hearse/ambulance with current Georgia registration for the transportation of casketed human remains at the establishment and failure to have a card or brochure in each casket stating the price of the casket.
  • Metro Embalming & Crematory, Inc., Conyers: $200 for failure to provide a written statement that has been signed and certified by a licensed funeral director showing the cost of goods and services.
  • Hall’s Funeral Home, Fitgerald: $50 for failure to conspicuously display a current biennial renewal license for the establishment, embalmer, funeral director and any apprentices.
  • Joiner-Anderson-Saxon Funeral Home & Crematory, Statesboro: $50 for failure to conspicuously display a current biennial renewal license for the establishment, embalmer, funeral director and any apprentices.
  • Bentley & Sons Funeral Home, Jeffersonville: $250 for failure to provide a written statement that has been signed and certified by a licensed funeral director showing the cost of goods and services and failure to conspicuously display a current biennial renewal license for the establishment, embalmer, funeral director and any apprentices.

The Board voted to post an amendment to Rule 250-5-.11. The rule amendment would allow for the term “immediately preceding” found in O.C.G.A.§43-18-42(a)(2), with respect to an applicant for reciprocity or endorsement of an embalmer and funeral director license, to mean that the appropriate application has been filed with and received by the State Board of Funeral Service within six months or less, of the applicant having ceased from practice as a licensed embalmer and funeral director in a state where he or she was actively engaged in the practice of Funeral Service for three or more years.

The Georgia Board of Funeral Services will hold its next meeting Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards Division office in Macon.
