Actions Taken by the Georgia State Board of Funeral Service at its December 11 Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia State Board of Funeral Service held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 11.

The Board accepted a Public Consent Order for Harrington Funeral Home of Lakeland for operating without an approved Funeral Director in Full & Continuous Charge without receiving a 90-day grace period from the Board. 

The Board accepted the Final Decision from the Office of State Administrative Hearings for Waverly Hall Memorial Funeral Home & Chapel and Mr. Chappelle Williams of Waverly Hall. An administrative law judge revoked the funeral establishment license and issued sanctions against Mr. Williams as Funeral Director in Full & Continuous Charge for obtaining an establishment license by fraud.

The Board accepted Order Accepting Fine Monies and Settling Inspection Citations for the following:

  • Community Funeral Home, Shellman: Failure to have an operable hearse titled in the establishment name.
  • Community Funeral Home, Atlanta: Failure to maintain a minimum of eight adult caskets in the display room.
  • Andrews Mortuary, Newnan: Failure to maintain a minimum of eight adult caskets in the display room.

The Board accepted Voluntary Cease and Desist Orders for the following:

  • Sellers Brothers Inc., Decatur: Advertising a funeral establishment at an unlicensed location.
  • Good Shepherd Funeral Home, Rome: Unlicensed funeral establishment.

In other business, the Board voted to change the starting time for all meetings scheduled in 2008 to 10 a.m.

The next meeting of the Georgia State Board of Funeral Service is scheduled for Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards in Macon.
