Actions Taken by the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology at its January 26 Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia State Board of Cosmetology met Monday, January 26, 2009.

The Board voted to post the following rule changes:

  • Board Rule 130-07.04, Fining Amended:
    • 1.  Failure to have a salon/shop license shall result in the following fine:  Unlicensed - $500.00 Expired License - $300.00 (O.C.G.A. 43-10-14, 43-10-10).
    • 2. Failure to post current salon/shop license or current copy of online verification in an open area shall result in a fine of: $100.00  $150.00. (Rule 130-2-.11(3))
  • Board Rule 130-2.02, School Libraries Amended
    • 6.  All schools of cosmetology, hair design schools, esthetician schools and schools of nail care shall maintain a library which includes at least one each of the following: medical dictionary, book on first aid, book on cosmetic chemistry, history book on hair styles, history book on esthetics, history book on nail care technology, book on basic nutrition, book on theory and practices of beauty culture, book on theory and practices of esthetics, book on theory and practices of nail care, book of instructor training and teaching methods for cosmetology, esthetician, nail technology, and hair design, book on personality and charm, book on primary art, sketching, etc., and at least one book on business management.

The Board voted to uphold the citations against the following establishments:

·         Anthony & Company, Valdosta

·         Belle & Dick Stylist, Douglas

·         20 West Beauty/Barber, Atlanta

·         GiGi’s Hair Studio, Decatur

·         Patricia B. Joseph, Smyrna

·         King’s Magic Touch, Atlanta

·         Kontour Beauty, Atlanta

·         Lovely Nails, Lithonia

·         Nails Trend, Peachtree City

·         Paula Scott Poindexter, Atlanta

·         Pure Essence, Atlanta

·         Ready Set Go, Atlanta

·         Spa South Natural Nails, Riverdale

·         M.S. Skincare, Atlanta

The Board voted to dismiss the citation against the following establishments:

  • Anthony & Company, Valdosta
  • Hairtogo Salon Inc, Union City
  • Renewall Salon Inc, Kennesaw
  • Stan Milton Salon, Atlanta

The Board voted to continue the case against the following establishments:

  • A Cut Above Salon, Quitman
  • Tashamba Knightonbrooks, Tifton
  • Carin Christa Bednar, Atlanta
  • Nail Groove, Atlanta
  • Patricia’s Hair Studio, Columbus

The Board voted to close the case against the following establishments:

  • Styles By In his hands, Douglasville
  • Top Nails, Carrollton

The Board voted to refer the following two licensees to the Attorney General’s Office for non-payment of citations:

  • Yoland Monique Price, Hampton
  • Total Image Unisex, Atlanta

The Board voted to uphold the final decision by the Office of State Administrative Hearings and amend the fine for the following establishment:

  • Multi Color Hair Salon, Austell

The Board voted to accept the Office of State Administrative Hearings’ decision in the case against the following establishment:

  • Carmen Michelle Simmons, Atlanta

The Board voted to approve one continuing education provider:

  • RicShaMore, Macon

The Board voted to approve four instructor continuing education providers:

  • Continuing Cosmetology.com, Orlando, FL
  • Beauty Education & Resources, Raleigh, NC
  • Great Extensions, Raleigh, NC
  • 360 Training, Austin, TX

The Georgia State Board of Cosmetology will hold its next meeting Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards Division office in Macon.
