Actions Taken by the Georgia State Board of Barbers

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia State Board of Barbers held meetings on Monday, October 27 and Monday, November 3, 2008.

The Board voted to suspend the license of the following individual:

  • Kendrick K. Walker, Waynesboro: Non-payment of student loans.

The Board voted to release the following individual from suspension after payment of child support:

  • Dwight B. Rhodes, Duluth

The Board voted to deny licenses to twelve applicants:

  • Tremayne V.Young, Columbia, SC
  • Melvin Coates Wood, Augusta
  • Edwin Solis, Hephzibah
  • James Bruce Talley, Macon
  • William R. Velazquez, Fayetteville, NC
  • Jerome C. Hayes, Savannah
  • Edward Eugene Johnson, Rockmart
  • Willie Frank Goddard, III, McDonough
  • Louis S. Syms, Savannah
  • Terrell L. Jenkins, Jesup
  • Kenneth R. Birchfield, Sun City, FL
  • Stanley E. Fullmore, Jesup

The Board upheld citations against the following establishments:

  • Thorton’s Klip/Kurl, Albany  

The Board voted to dismiss citations against the following establishments:

  • Cut Creators, Darien
  • Deryll’s Barber Shop, Hinesville
  • Kings and Queens, Savannah
  • Mirror Mirror, Augusta
  • New York’s Finest, Duluth
  • Quality Hair Care, Midway
  • Star Barber Shop, Savannah
  • Tight Cuts, Hephzibah
  • Wilson Barber, Brunswick
  • Dave Collins, Thomasville
  • J&M, Dawson

The following establishments paid citations in full:

  • Celebrity Status, Brunswick
  • VIP University, Pooler
  • Roberson’s Barber, Cordele

The Board voted to post the following rule change:

70-5-.07 Pets. Amended.

(1) Pets shall not be allowed in Barber establishments, except for guide and assistance dogs as permitted by Title 30 of the Georgia Code.

(2) Each barber shop shall post in an open area, so as to be easily read by customers, a sign prohibiting pets.

The Board voted to dismiss citations prior to December 31, 2004 without prejudice.

The Georgia State Board of Barbers will hold its next meeting Monday, December 8, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards Division office in Macon.
