Nursing Home Administrators: Questions and Answers for Absentee Voting

Please note that absentee voting by mail is a two-step process:

  1. The voter or family member must apply for a ballot, which will be sent to the voter
    1a.
  2. Family members consist of the following:  elector's mother, father, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, spouse, son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law of the age of 18 or over.
  3. Then the voter fills out the ballot and returns it to their county office in person or by mail.

ABSENTEE BALLOT APPLICATIONS

1. How do I request blank absentee ballot application for our residents?   7. When will the voter receive the ballot?
2. Do I sign the application if I’m assisting a resident and I’m not a family member?   8. May a resident request multiple election ballots using one absentee ballot application?
3. Does the resident need to put his/her signature or mark on the application if he/she is being assisted by someone other than a relative?   9. Does a voter have to complete a separate application for a Special Election even though they applied for a ballot in a Primary and checked the box for “all” elections?
4. What if the voter’s signature has changed?   10. Is a resident required to complete an application for the Presidential Primary also?
