About Us
The Secretary of State chairs the
State Records Committee and through the Archives administers a
statewide records and information management program for the efficient
operation of government. The Archives advises state agencies and local
governments of appropriate records-keeping techniques and systems, provides
training in a variety of records management topics, and guides agencies
in the development and use of
retention schedules. The Archives operates the
State Records Center as a centralized storage facility for nearly
160,000 cubic feet of temporary records of state government. In addition, a
Media Security Vault provides secure off-site storage for microfilm and
electronic backups of both vital and permanent records of state and local
government.
Mission
The mission of the Records and Information Management Services Program is to
promote the efficient administration and management of Georgia governments'
records in compliance with the
Georgia Records Act and the
Open Records Act.
Goal
The goal of the Records and Information Management Services Program is to
provide guidance and advice to state and local government agencies for the
establishment and continued maintenance of successful individual records
management programs that meet compliance with the Georgia Records Act and the
Open Records Act.
